The designerpad: Trendy Cardboard

Cardboard furniture and accessories have been in the eco-scene for some time, but it’s now that this ecological trend is becoming more and more popular. The Valencia-based multidisciplinary design studio Sanserif Creatius —set up by the designer Ana Yago and journalist Jose Antonio Gimenez— specializes in the development of this kind of environment-friendly furniture and products. Their exclusive collection of 100% biodegradable corrugated cardboard pieces is very unique, drawing some inspiration from typography and Spain’s Moorish past, like their m-shaped “Mustafá” table (below).

Although there are skeptics who question the strength and durability of these pieces, tests show their well-thought-out design and construction make them very sturdy. Sanserif Creatius is very aware that society today demands more than a piece of furniture or a product conceived to satisfy a need — it must be functional and aesthetically pleasing as well. They know that users are looking for added value, for furniture and products with soul that convey cultural, social and environmental values. Bravo to Ana and Jose Antonio for their wonderful contribution to the green movement, especially when creating such clever and beautiful pieces that can compliment most decors. More at Designerpad.
